Carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide are greenhouse gases (GHG) and known causes of climate change worldwide. Dairy farming contributes significantly to GHG emissions in three ways: through cows' digestive process called enteric fermentation, where methane is emitted to the atmosphere through cows belching and exhaling; through soil disturbance during crop production; and through manure production, storage, and management (8 pages; 2019).
